Co-op Membership

WE MAKE GREAT BEVERAGES, BUT WE DO IT TO BUILD COMMUNITY.

Fair State was the first cooperatively-owned brewery in Minnesota, and the third in the country. Since we opened in 2014, co-op members have helped design recipes, picked fresh berries for fruited sours, volunteered countless hours for our Cooperates partners, and formed meaningful relationships with our staff and each other.

Open and Voluntary Membership

For us, that means that anyone can become a member.

Democratic Member Control

Any member can run for our Board, and the Board is elected by our members.

Members’ Economic Participation

Our members contribute to the capital structure of the cooperative through their initial member dues—their participation got us off the ground and supports our continued evolution.

Autonomy and Independence

Fair State Co-op is an independent business. We’re not owned by some shadowy corporate overlords; it’s just us running the show.

Education, Training, and Information

We hold periodic events about what co-ops are for folks thinking about joining, and we keep our members updated about the state of the business at our Annual Meeting.

Cooperation Among Cooperatives

We love our fellow co-ops! In fact, if you’re a member of any local co-op, your first beer is half off every Monday.

Concern for Community

Our Cooperates partners receive 10% of crowler and glassware sales, and we’re proud to organize volunteer opportunities that allow folks to engage in our local community.
