HBC is the hop breeding company (get it?) that YCH partly owns/works with to develop new strains. All experimental hops are assigned numerical codes when they show promise, and they don’t receive names until they are widely released to growers. For example, Citra started out as HBC 394. HBC 692 is a very promising new hop that will most likely get a name and a wide release in a year or two.
