Hiring: Accounting Manager & Controller

Fair State Brewing Cooperative is seeking an Accounting Manager & Controller to join our staff.

Fair State is the first cooperatively-owned brewery in Minnesota and one of a handful in the Midwest. We began operations at our Northeast Minneapolis brewery and taproom in August 2014, and added a production brewery in St. Paul, MN in 2017.

This position reports to the CEO.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage general accounting functions: perform monthly close activities, bank reconciliation, and financial statement production, maintain the chart of accounts & general ledger
  • Maintain financial records
  • Manage daily sales, tax, and compliance reporting
  • Perform Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable duties
  • Provide financial analysis and insight to Directors and Managers to help inform their decision-making
  • Manage payroll in coordination with managers and our payroll service provider
  • Monitor cash flow and perform appropriate cash management
  • Desired Skills, Qualities, and Experience
  • Five+ years of related work experience, experience in public accounting, working with small businesses, and/or manufacturing are a plus
  • Substantial finance & accounting experience required, including: performing monthly close; accounts payable & receivable; managing a general ledger
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent—CPA is a plus but not required
  • General familiarity with accounting software packages and ERP systems in a manufacturing environment, experience with Orchestrated Beer a plus
  • Expertise with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Organized & detail-oriented
  • Self-starting—a capacity to independently recognize issues and opportunities and work collaboratively to address them
  • Compensation and Benefits

    This is a full-time, salaried position compensated at $75,000 per year. As a full-time employee, this role is also eligible for:

  • 8 paid holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day)
  • Paid Time Off, which can be used for any purpose and is accrued at a rate of 0.0769 hours of PTO per hour worked (4 weeks per year)
  • Paid parental leave (160 hours of paid parental leave in the 12 months following, or the 9 months prior to, the birth, adoption, or foster placement of a child in your home)
